Health and Safety Policy

Hazards

We acknowledge that due to the day-to-day nature of contract with students, it is our responsibility to safeguard children from any hazards within the building, the grounds or within the immediate vicinity of the building during the times when they are under our supervision. No member of staff is allowed to supply a student with a hot drink. Very small children e.g. 3-6 years, are accompanied to the toilet by an adult teacher/supervisor who remains outside the bathroom to prevent them from getting lost or straying from their class.
Any slips, trips or falls, spills, breakages, bangs to the head or minor incidents and injuries are recorded in the incident/accident book, outlining the nature of the event and the name and details of the person involved. Young children are not allowed to use non-safety scissors, staplers, glue or any sharp implement unsupervised. All paints and arts/crafts materials are child-safe and non-toxic. Running on the concrete areas of the school’s outdoor facilities or in the corridors is strictly forbidden.

Sickness

If your child needs to be administered medication during school hours, please notify the administration in writing. AIS will have general first-aid supplies available for minor injuries. If any medical emergency arises, students will be given immediate attention by the school nurse. If the medical emergency is not life threatening, then the parents will be advised of the emergency and the school will make plans with the parent for appropriate treatment.
This will prepare us to be able to take appropriate and potentially life-saving action should a medical emergency arise. Withholding this information could have serious consequences should your child experience illness whilst in school.
Children occasionally come to school fit and well, but experience illness throughout the course of the day. Therefore, we have our First Aider on the premises.
Should any child experience minor sickness or distress whilst on the premises, we will contact the parent if we feel it is necessary. A member of staff will remain with the child until such point when they can be calmed down and returned to class or collected by their parents.
